Chat

Set how your agent behaves when people type to it instead of calling, and add buttons, links and cards to a step.

The same agent answers calls and typed conversations. In chat it follows the same steps, prompts, tools and documents; only the medium changes. Chat happens in two places:

  • Website chat, in the widget you add to your site (see Website chat). Visitors see the agent's text replies.
  • Test chat, on the builder's Test menu, where you message your draft. It also shows the buttons, links, locations and cards a step sends.

What works differently in chat

  • Collect Digits and Menu steps need a phone keypad, so they do not work in chat.
  • Delayed Start and Allow Interruption only matter on a call.
  • Can book a call back books nothing in chat: there is no number to call back, so the agent offers to take a message instead.
  • Global steps and End steps work in chat as on a call. Reaching an End step closes the conversation.

Chat settings

Open the agent's settings (the Workflow settings button on its card on the Workflow page) and go to Channels > Chat. Select Save when you are done.

SettingWhat it does
Opening messageThe first message of a new website chat. Leave it blank to use the agent's greeting. Up to 2,000 characters
Idle timeout (seconds)How long a silent conversation stays open before it closes. From 60 seconds to 4 hours; 30 minutes unless you change it
Wait before replying (seconds)In website chat, the agent waits this long after the visitor's last message, so several quick messages get one answer. 1 to 10 seconds, 3 by default

What a step sends in chat

Open a step and go to its Chat section. What this step sends in chat shows a preview of the chat in the order it is sent; select a part to edit it, or use Add to add one. Voice calls ignore all of it.

These parts show in the Test chat when the conversation reaches the step:

  • Buttons (choices): turns on Show choices as buttons, which offers the step's arrows as buttons. Each arrow needs its own Button text (open the arrow on the canvas), up to 20 characters and different on each arrow, and a step can offer at most 10. People can still type instead of tapping.
  • Location: a place, shown as a map pin.
  • Link button: a button that opens a web page. Set the Button text (up to 20 characters), the Web address (must start with https://) and an optional Message above the button.
  • Cards: 2 to 10 cards side by side. With Fixed cards, each card has a picture from your chat media, a title (up to 60 characters), optional text (title and text together up to 160 characters, at most 2 line breaks) and one Button: Go to step (one of the step's arrows) or Open link. Every card needs a picture and a title. Cards with Go to step buttons cannot be used together with Buttons (choices).

Set each one to Send when this step starts. Parts set to Agent sends when it fits, files, and cards From a tool are not sent in website chat or the Test chat.

Test the chat side of a step

Open Test chat from the Test menu and walk the conversation to the step. Tap a button to send its text as your reply.

Common questions

What is Woise?

Woise lets you build AI agents that answer and make phone calls and chat on your website. You lay out the conversation on a visual canvas, try it in your browser, then connect it to a phone number.

Do I need a phone number to start?

No. You can build and test an agent in the browser without one. When you are ready, connect a phone number and choose which agent answers it.

How does billing work?

You pay for the minutes your agents use, from your credit balance. There are no seat fees and no per-agent fees, so an agent that is not taking calls costs nothing.

Which languages can an agent speak?

Agents can listen and speak in more than 40 languages, including English, Spanish, Hindi, Tamil and Arabic. You pick the language and the voice for each agent.

Can an agent connect to my CRM or calendar?

Yes. An agent can look things up and make changes in 26 apps, such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Google Calendar, Slack and WhatsApp, during the call. You connect each app once.

Do I need engineers to build an agent?

No. Everything is built in a visual editor, so you can create and change an agent without writing code. If your team prefers code, there is also a REST API and an MCP server.

What happens to call recordings and transcripts?

Every call keeps a transcript and its outcome, and audio is only recorded if you turn it on. Only people in your account can see your calls, and your account lives in the region you chose when you signed up.

What do I have to set up or run?

None. We run the speech, the language models, the recordings and the phone connections, and scale them with your call volume. There is nothing for you to set up or keep running.

How do I reach the team?

Email contact@woise.ai, call or WhatsApp +91 83412 34080, or use the form on our contact page. A person reads every message.
